Having a child is central to Chinese culture with newly weds often under intense pressure to pop out a baby as soon as they are married.
However one couple from Guiyang in Guizhou province were having real difficulties conceiving. The young couple had been married for 4 years and for the majority of their married life they had desperately tried to conceive. This was in-spite of the fact that love making was very painful for the wife.
Finally after 4 unsuccessful years of trying they decided to go to the hospital to check if there was a reason why they couldn’t get pregnant. The doctor took the wife away first as he was naturally concerned at the pain she was experiencing during sex. Initially the doctor believed she could have a sexually transmitted disease or another serious issue. It was here he discovered that she was a virgin. However the couple had been having sex for at least the last 4 years. Obviously sex-ed was not something that was taught to either one of the couple.
The doctor then examined the woman’s anus, for obvious reasons. These tests alongside a reasonable amount of common sense revealed that this was where the love making took place. The exact quote in newspaper that initially reported the article was that the doctor could fit 3 fingers inside – 发现女方肛门竟然可以容下3指。
After a lesson on how to make a baby the young couple headed home and within months were pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby. They gave the doctor free range eggs and a chicken as a thank you for giving them the thing the wanted more than anything; a baby.

This story was originally report in the Guiyang Wan Bao, very roughly translating as the Guiyang Evening Post. It does however touch on a major issue facing modern China; the lack of sex education taught in both schools and homes. This has lead to a major rise in sexual transmitted diseases including HIV.
